resco.Houston back office guide

In resco.Houston, there are multiple user roles that are usually sitting in the (back) office, unlike the mobile users who are out there tending to the machinery. These are:
- knowledge managers, i.e., people responsible for managing models, equipment, and, most importantly, guides
- experts ready to offer advice to junior staff
- admins responsible for managing the resco.Houston organization's users and data
Accessing resco.Houston
Back office users access resco.Houston using a web browser. We recommend using Chrome.
- Go to https://houston.resco.net/.
- Log in using your organization ID, email address, and password.
Main functions
The Workspace menu in the left pane allows you to access the different features of resco.Houston.
- Models
- Equipment
- Users
- Library
Admins additionally have access to the Administration menu; see resco.Houston admin guide for more information.
Your user portrait in the top right corner allows you to sign out of the app. If you have multiple roles assigned, you can switch to the appropriate app from this location.
Managing models
In resco.Houston, models are machines with a manufacturer. Select Models from the Workspace menu to display a list of machinery models in your organization. Click any model to display its details.
To create a new model:
- Log in to resco.Houston as a knowledge manager or admin.
- Select Models from the Workspace menu and click the plus button.
- Enter a name, manufacturer, and description, and upload a picture of the machine.
- Save changes. This unlocks additional options to link experts and guides to this model:
- Click the plus button in the Experts pane and select an expert with the necessary know-how to support this model, then click Save.
- Click the link button in the Guides pane and from the list of all guides in the left pane, add the relevant ones to the right pane.
- Save all changes.
Managing equipment
In resco.Houston, equipment is concrete machines installed in a particular location. Select Equipment from the Workspace menu to display a list of installed equipment in your organization. Click any piece of equipment to display its details.
To create a new piece of equipment:
- Log in to resco.Houston as a knowledge manager or admin.
- Select Equipment from the Workspace menu and click the plus button.
- Enter equipment details, select the model, and upload a picture of the machine.
- Save changes. This unlocks additional options to link experts and guides to this piece of equipment:
- Click the plus button in the Experts pane and select an expert with the necessary know-how to support this piece of equipment, then click Save.
- Click the link button in the Guides pane and from the list of all guides in the left pane, add the relevant ones to the right pane.
- Save all changes.
Each piece of equipment has a QR code generated automatically. Scanning this QR code allows you to open the details of this equipment in the app.
Managing users
Select Users from the Workspace menu to display a list of users in your organization. Click any user to display details. You can also modify some user details from this screen.

Managing guides
Select Library from the Workspace menu to display a list of guides.
The guides library screen offers several functions that should make your work a pleasant experience:
- Filters in the left pane allow to you quickly locate what you need. You can filter guides according to their category and status.
- Sort by: Select how should the displayed guides be ordered in the top row.
- View as: Switch between grid and list view.
To work with a particular guide, do one of the following:
- select it and use the top row buttons.
- hover over a guide and use the buttons that appear.
The following functions are available:
- Edit
- Duplicate (clone)
- Archive
- Share: Available for published guides. Displays a QR code that you can scan on your phone to open the guide.
- Preview
- View feedback
- Publish or unpublish
Creating a new guide
- On the list of guides, click New Guide.
- In the Media library pane, click the plus button and upload images or PDF that you plan to use in the guide.
- Drag an image from the Media library pane to the central pane. You can then click Edit to crop the image or annotate it with text, arrows, or similar effects. Remember to save changes.
- Enter a title and description for your guide.
- In the Steps Explorer pane, add a new step.
- Just like for the cover page, drag an image from the library and enter a title and a description for the step. You can add more descriptive paragraphs, tips, or warnings as needed.
- Continue adding steps until the guide is complete. You can reorder steps on the Steps Explorer pane by dragging them to the right location.
- Switch to the Associate tab to edit guide properties.
- Save all changes and publish your new guide.
Video calls
Users with the role "expert" can accept video calls via resco.Houston. In this way, they can share their knowledge with junior staff facing a problem with a particular piece of machinery.
When you first log in to resco.Houston as an expert, you need to enable notifications.
