The Resco Mobile CRM application has been translated into many languages (see list). Users of the mobile app can select their preferred language in the Setup / Settings (unless that component has been removed from the app by the administrator).

Administrators can use Woodford to manage available language in the mobile app.

  • To modify language options for the entire organization and all projects, select Localizations from the Administration menu.
  • To modify language options for a single app project, select Localization from the Project menu.

If a string is defined on both project level and organization level, the project-level version is used.

Project-level localization contains user interface texts and entity texts, whereas organization-level localization contains entity texts only.

Adding a language

New languages are added on organization level. They are automatically enabled for all projects. You can deactivate unwanted languages on project level if needed.

  1. Select Localizations from the Administration menu.
  2. On the toolbar, click New. A new window opens.
  3. As Language, select the language that you want to create.
  4. As Template, select the language that will be used as a source.
  5. Click Save. New language is added to the list. After you republish your projects, your mobile users will now see an additional language available.

Editing a translation

This option gives you the ability to add a language mutation of the Mobile CRM application – this means that you can change various display names in the app, names of entities, tabs in forms, and other UI elements.

This can be particularly useful if a translation does not fit on the small button of the mobile app. Updating these selected strings, perhaps using abbreviations, can greatly improve the usability of the app.

To modify strings:

  1. Select a language and click Edit. Alternatively, double-click the language.
  2. Use the Navigation pane to find the string you want to modify.
  3. Optionally, use Search in the top right corner of the Labels pane to narrow down your search.
  4. To modify a label, select it and click Edit (or just double-click it).
  5. Click Save to save your changes.

Publish your app project(s) and sync the app to see the changes in action.

Additional options:

  • If you're not happy with a particular change, use the Restore button.
  • Use Add or Add Multiple to add custom labels. Use Delete to remove custom labels. You cannot delete the default labels.
  • Use Export to download the labels in text format. Use Import to upload labels back. Always use a text editor (with UTF-8 encoding, e.g. Notepad) if you wish to alter the localization files.

Properties
Allows you to modify the Template language of a translation.
Delete
Remove a language from the list of available languages within the app. Any custom translations are lost.
Activate
Make an inactive language active again.
Deactivate
Remove a language from the list of available languages within the app. Any custom translations are kept intact.

Exporting localization

If you need to transfer your localizations to a different organization, make sure to export and import localizations both on the organization level and project level.

Tip: use localization to display restricted characters

When designing the user interface in Woodford, you may encounter a restriction that prevents you from using certain characters in the names and labels of UI elements. For example, when naming a view, you can only use alphanumeric characters, space, dash, or underscore. Similar (often less strict) restrictions exist in forms, for example, for the name of a detail tab or an associated list tab.

If you need to display a particular special character, you can use localization to change the label of these elements.

Localization on Salesforce

The Salesforce server supports many languages (see list). Resco can reuse these localized strings in its mobile apps. These are the requirements:

  1. Set the language of at least one active user of the organization to the required language.
  2. Click Update Metadata.

Since release 14.3, Resco mobile apps respect Record Type translations as defined in the translation workbench. Localized Record Type names are displayed when creating new records or when the record type field is displayed on an entity form. To enable this feature, the entity Translation (sf_recordtypelocalization) must be enabled in the app project.

You can also localize questionnaire templates used in Resco Inspections. For this particular use case, the localization interface is accessed from the Questionnaire Designer: edit a questionnaire template and click Localization. In Woodford, it is only necessary to enable the necessary languages.
Making a lookup field from text field
In some cases, users need to enter the same text into some field repeatedly. To help them, you can use localization to predefine some often-used options so that the text field acts as a combination of a lookup field and text field. That way, users can choose from the most frequent options and also have an opportunity to enter a different entry if desired so.
